When you think of using social media for promotion and advertising, I think you’re most likely to first think of Facebook and Twitter, now followed closely by Pinterest.
Instagram is something that continues to grow and grow especially in the last year or two, with many businesses and entrepreneurs trying to reach a bigger market. A lot of the Instagram posts you see are done from a mobile phone, probably most of them actually. For this to really be effective, you need to have a smartphone with good photography capabilities.
Instagram originally started out as just a photo sharing app for your mobile. It made taking photos cool. It seems people are constantly taking photos these days with their mobiles and Instagram fits to this perfectly. I do wonder though how much of a good idea is it to put your whole life online. In some ways you could say it’s a dangerous world we live in nowadays. If anyone wants to know about you, online is the place for it to be done.
In 2012 Instagram was brought by Facebook for 1 billion dollars. Instagram can now allow you to share your videos, and it’s now more of a player in the advertising game as well.
With Instagram being pretty much based around photography, can businesses of all shapes and sizes be effective ? Towards the end of 2015, Instagram had 400 million users and continues to grow today. I think if you are targeting a younger audience, say perhaps teenagers, then Instagram is the place to be. Think of industries such as fashion and travel. There’s nothing more effective than visual marketing. But, if you are in another industry, Instagram is still very exciting.
Once you create an account perhaps for your business, you need to get a username. It’s smart to use the same username as you do in other social platforms. Once you create an account, you need to also create a bio. I have been given the advice of having a link to the likes of a list building site………. I offer a free book.
If you want to develop a band of followers, then you need to follow others yourself. Follow others also in the same industry as you. When someone follows you, follow them back.
If you want Instagram to be effective, you need to give it some attention and be genuine. Use real life photos and make comments on other people’s pictures. One needs to be consistent with posting as well. Try to post at least once a day, but no more than 3 times a day.You don’t want people to get sick of your posts.
For people to see your posts, you need to be using hashtags. It’s important to not use hashtags that are overused. Think of the people you want to target, and who you want your followers to be.
Another way to be consistent is to use quality images. It’s a good idea to find an Instagram filter and once you have picked one, stick with it. I highly recommend Canva to create your Instagram posts. If you do not have use of the right mobile , then take a look at Gramblr. This is a way to get those images to Instagram.
To have a better consistent brand, keep your images similar looking. An example of this is an Instagram account titled menandcoffee. This account currently has 391000 followers. You’ll see these images all feature men and coffee, and the bio leads to sites where products around fashion & coffee are promoted.
Most people are currently focused on Facebook, Twitter and perhaps Pinterest. If you don’t have an Instagram account, then you are missing out. Instagram was something that I wasn’t taking part in until just recently. I still have a long way to go with my Instagram account, but I’m very much glad that I have that account.
It’s not just about people posting selfies. It’s an exciting social platform that continues to rapidly grow.Take some time to plan Instagram. Be sure to create a good bio with a call to action, and interact with the followers you receive.
